Star Wars - Rebellion 1998 (PC) (ISO)
Description:
This is labeled a RTS, but it is NOT a RTS, it's a TBS with a stupid real time flow mechanism, so that it could be called an RTS. Fans of true RTS game be warned!
4x Strategy set in the Star Wars universe. Following the destruction of the first Death Star, a player assumes the role of either the Rebel Alliance or the Empire, and is tasked with managing the economy, building and supporting a space navy, liberating or conquering worlds, colonising uninhabited planets, sending famous characters on diplomacy missions to change the opinion locals have on the Empire/Rebels, research new technology (buildings, ships, fighters), assasinate or capture enemies, sabotage vital structures, incite riots and rebellions, the list goes on...
As fun as it is to beat the bad guys, it's much funner to cruise around the universe with a fleet of sexy Imperial Star Destroyers, looking for the damn Rebel HQ (which can totally run away and hide, no fair!). The major characters are represented in the game, and you can use their diplomacy, or combat skills.
The game's major flaw is the time flow. Instead of manually advancing time, you will either be overwhelmed by the many actions requireing your attention, or will crank the speed up because nothing is happening. The other flaw is the space battles. They are not visually entertaining and they lack tactical depth. The graphics are outdated even for 1998 but the cut-scenes are very nice though.
Another problem is the interface. It's not bad... it's different. The shortcuts are pretty usefull but it takes some time before you feel you're in control. It's a powerfull game, but not polished enough.
